Importance of Obtaining Legal Advice

Our firm has been and continues to be involved in a large number of high profile cases.

It is important to obtain legal advice at the earliest possible opportunity. Ideally this should be before you participate in a record of interview with the police. When participating in a record of interview the following matters are relevant:

  1. You must provide your name and address.
  2. You must give your fingerprints.
  3. You can answer ‘no comment’ to questions asked by the police.
  4. You can make admissions in relation to the allegations.
  5. You can deny the allegations.
  6. However, it is not always in a client’s interest to make a ‘no comment’ record of interview and consequently it is advisable to obtain legal advice as soon as possible.

The future direction of your case can often be undermined by how you approach the interview.

The best outcome in any case often depends on thorough preparation and correct advice at the outset.

What to bring with you when attending an appointment with us:

  1. Your first appointment with us is without charge (limited to 20 minutes).
  2. You should bring with you your charges, your taped record of interview; and all paperwork relating to your case.
  3. If you are not working you should bring your health care card, if applying for legal aid.
  4. You should bring your last three months of bank statements or ATM slip, if applying for legal aid.
  5. You should obtain personal references - they may be required for your court case, including confirmation of employment, if applicable.
